- Kids raise their hands to be seen and to be heard
- Kids are the future. If we want to end poverty we have to educate them
- We raise our hands to directly improve primary school education in the Lamu Archipelago
Our Vision
To give primary schoolchildren the tools to contribute towards ending poverty and sustaining a healthy environment.
We aim to do this through
- Ensuring that all primary schoolchildren have access to clean water and sanitation and an environment conducive for holistic growth
- Provide in-school training courses to help children to cope with stress and restore their natural smiles
- Provide primary schools with internet connection, to enable them to develop valuable partnerships outside their environment and attain a more global approach
Yoga and Wiyoni
Hands Up was invited by the French Cultural Centre to take part in the Maulid Festival in Lamu on March 12. Our Hands Up kids from Shela gave a yoga demonstration in Lamu Town Square in the presence of the French Ambassador Mrs Elizabeth Barbier as well as the Director of the National Museums of Kenya. We also took this opportunity to begin our work with Wiyoni Primary School in Lamu, by presenting the sports teams with new kits and equipment, as well as sanitary supplies thanks to a very kind donation from a private American sponsor. The work is now continuing at Wiyoni, courtesy of the European School in the Netherlands, with the installation of gutters to collect rainwater during our very heavy ongoing rainy season – see our project page for more details.
